HEY BLOGGER! HEY BLOGGER!

We now have the new comment format for our blogs, but the function to subscribe to a comment thread is missing. One would assume that 'new' would be an improvement. How is removing a function that is valued by many an improvement? Come on Blogger! Some of us want to have continuing conversations in blog comments and like receiving email notifications when someone responds to our comments. Now we must continually check back by clicking on the URL for the blog for responses.
HEY BLOGGER, PLEASE REINSTALL EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS FOR SUBSCRIBERS! PLEASE! GIVE US BACK OUR CONVERSATIONS!
UPDATE: Penny at One Cannot Have Too Large a Party informs me that the 'subscribe' function is available in Blogger's embedded comment format, so I switched. I hope a good many of my blog friends make the change. Still, the 'subscribe' function should be available in all comment formats.

  1. MImi, I switched to embedded comments from pop up and there's a subscribe option there. Meanwhile, though, I can't get the thumbnails from my blog to post to Facebook when I copy the link or use the share button. Sigh.

  2. Time to migrate to Wordpress, I guess....

  3. Penney, thanks for letting me know. I'll change to the embedded format. Still, that's just you and me. What about the other blogs I visit?

Like Scarlett, I'll think about the Facebook problem tomorrow.

Doxy, I'm thinking long and hard about switching to Wordpress, but I am inept at techie stuff, and I dread the ordeal.

  4. I think facebook is blocking blogger images. I have the same problem

  5. IT, my image of Blogger's 'B' went up on FB before I switched to the embedded comment format. I'll try again.

  6. I signed out and I'm posting as anonymous to see what happens.

  7. I'm going to try again ...

IT, I used this debug tool to bring back the thumbnail from my blog to Facebook

    https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug

    Give it a try.

  8. Penny, your comment came through. I adjusted a setting recommended by an online help forum, and perhaps that will help.

  9. Grandmere Mimi--I am just doing this to see if I am able to post a comment.

  10. Bonnie, thanks. I want to see if the comments are working for everyone, and I appreciate that you weighed in,

  11. Hey Mimi,

What happened to my pop-up comment windows???

    *PLEASE* bring them back! {insert puppy-eyed JCF here---or an actual puppy, if more persuasive}

  12. JCF, no one could subscribe to comment threads with the pop-up window since Blogger made the changes. Sometimes conversations get going, and the only way to follow was to click repeatedly on the blog. Blogger did not necessarily improve things with all their updates. If they make it possible to subscribe to the comment threads in pop-up windows, I'll return to that format. Bear with me and Blogger.

  13. ...and now MP's doing it your (bad, to me) way, too.

    I'm not happy. :-(

Sometimes conversations get going, and the only way to follow was to click repeatedly on the blog.

The way I did, and it was no problem?

Sometime I think my favorite bloggers think "Let's make things harder for JCF. Let's crash JCF's old-can't-afford-to-replace computer."

    :-(

  14. JCF, I removed the fuzzy letters. Don't I get credit for that? Sometimes I was driven to post 5 or 6 times before my comment would appear. Other times, I gave up. The letters were driving me mad, and I could not inflict them on others if it was at all possible to go another way.

I did not intend to make it harder for you, but I do want the subscription function. I'm sorry your old computer crashes with the embedded comment format. :-(

  15. I'm more confused than you I think Mimi on this subscribe option...and the new letters are terrible, but I hated all the trash I got almost worse.

  16. Ciss, Blogger's spam filter is working very well. I have only a few comments in the spam folder each day, and they are all spam. Legitimate comments are not going into the folder. The letters on other blogs are sometimes impossible to get right, so I decided to try without word verification here, and so far, so good from my end. I hope the settings are better for most of my readers.
