TWO STORIES OF THE DAY

Hidden Ocean
She held her grief behind her eyes like
an ocean & when she leaned forward
into the day it spilled onto the floor &
she wiped at it quickly with her foot &
pretended no one had seen.

Joy of Spring
The birds brought seed & flowers & bits
of brightly colored string & placed them
in her hair while she slept so that she
would remember the wild joy of spring
when she finally awoke.
