CONGRATULATIONS TO THE HAPPY ROYAL FAMILY

How does Kate do it? Of course, I was never, ever beautiful like the new mom, but I looked like the living dead the day after giving birth to my firstborn.

  1. Well, it helps that her hairdresser was seen slipping into the hospital today. But that's OK. In her job she always has to look her best or the tabloid press will make nasty comments.

    1. I suppose a hairdresser and a little makeup help. I was in labor for 21 hours, and my husband told me that when he first saw me after the baby was born, I looked as if I had been run over. How kind of him to say. Those were the days when fathers were barred from the delivery room.

    2. The Royal Hairdresser really ought give her a significant trim: that's a whole lotta hair for the Heir to, um, yank!

    3. JCF, young women and girls like their hair long today. My granddaughter has hair longer than Kate's. She can always tie her hair back or put it up if it gets in the way.

  2. The Cambridges make a handsome couple everywhere they go, dressed up or down. No doubt when little prince grows up he will be a heartbreaker with a double dose of good looks. All good wishes to them.

    1. Russ, I wish the young family well, too. They will need all the good will in the world as their privacy will be limited.

  3. Yes, the lack of privacy would make me crazy, to say nothing of the responsibilities - I suppose everyone has sometimes thought "if I were king/queen . . ." but what a really lousy job it is, when you stop and think about all the downsides that come with it, 24/7.

The papers say Kate is not going to hire a nanny or nursemaid, and all I can think is, how can she not? He works full time, all hours out on search & rescue - meanwhile she has charities and official events to attend.

I suppose she wants to keep the baby's upbringing down to earth and "real" in middle-class terms, and that's not a bad motive. But seems highly impractical - I can't imagine any other young woman of wealth in the world disdaining all help like that, can you?

    1. Russ, just because Kate doesn't have a nanny won't mean that she has no help. Perhaps she can limit her public appearances while the prince is young and be more or less a stay-at-home mom. It's not as thought they don't have the money. :-)
