THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

For the most part, those of us with deep roots in New Orleans and south Louisiana do not think of England as the mother country.

  1. Ditto to that sentiment here in the high plains. (THIS is the mother country!)

    1. Indeed. None of the European invaders were kind to the First Peoples.

    1. Here in Louisiana, the French came first, then the Spanish, then the French again before the Louisiana Purchase. We tend to think of our heritage as mixed but mostly French.

The truth of it is Europeans of one stripe or another invaded and took over the real Mother Country of the First Peoples.

  4. England is the country that established concentration camps for French-speaking Acadians. It was our good luck to get many of the survivors.

    1. The story of the expulsion of Acadians is quite sad. I cried when I visited Grand Pré National Park in Nova Scotia.
