I was going to wait until tomorrow to tell you about our drama at the end of our visit with Kirstin, who is the loveliest of ladies, so charming and smart and sweet. Grandpère and I had a most enjoyable lunch with her, and afterwards went to drive around the Garden District through the side streets off St. Charles Avenue, where there are many beautiful old houses. We came to a stop sign, and Grandpère stopped, but, unfortunately, he started up in the path of a taxi, which hit us in the rear wheel and spun us around. From the strength of the impact, I believe he must have been going fast, but he had the right of way, and GP did not.
I heard from Kirstin tonight, and she has a headache and back pain. She will seek medical attention tomorrow. In the meantime, please pray for her. GP and I are fine. We were able to drive the car home, but it is finished. I will be getting another car sooner than expected.
I regret so that our gathering ended as it did. Please pray for Kirstin.
Aw, thank you. I took a long, hot shower and I think my head feels better. It's not so much generalized "pain," as the inside of one scapula feels sort of fileted. But I'll get care, tomorrow. And I don't really think it'll be a big deal.
ReplyDeleteMimi, please don't beat yourself up.
I'm sorry your car's unfixable. Maybe you'll love your next one.
Love to you all, and prayers.
ReplyDeleteOh dear! Prayers for one and all!!
ReplyDeleteMy prayers and good wishes to all who hurt, inside and out!
ReplyDeleteDid GP get a ticket? We should pray for him too.
ReplyDeleteThanks all for the prayers.
ReplyDeleteOrmonde, we did not wait for the police to come. We were told it could take up to three hours. We exchanged information and left. The taxi was a old model, and only the bumper was damaged. Whether that was right or wrong, that's what we did, after waiting for about 45 minutes.
Poor Kirstin. She promised to let me know as soon as she found out anything.
So sorry you had such an unfortunate ending to such a happy time. Glad you and GP are o.k. Let's hope for a good report from Kristin. Prayers for all.
ReplyDeleteTBTG, you and GP are OK, and Kristin sounds well, too. As a former traffic cop, it sounds to me as if this was managed as well as could be.
ReplyDeleteIt worries me a little that this happened, though, Mimi; how often does GP drive down there these days, ah? And perhaps an unexpected expense on retirement income, and an increase in insurance. I must learn to drive more cautiously, or move, myself: both, perhaps.
Anyway and again, I'm so grateful this turned out this well for all directly involved, and will pray for you all. My last accident (July) scared me so bad I didn't sleep for four days.
Grandmère Mimi, Folks who have never lived down your way may not know, but the way people drive in New Orleans, the whole place is an accident waiting to happen. I've come close, sooo close, too many times to count, while there to getting my car smushed.
ReplyDeleteEveryone will be in my prayers--Kirstin, Grandpère, and you. I am happy to hear everyone is okay.
Johnieb, I learned to drive in crazy New Orleans traffic. It was crazy way back then, and it's crazy now. GP will not be driving any more in the city of NO. He grew up in a rural area. We kept saying that I would drive in the city, but we didn't actually do it. Now we will. GP did not sleep well last night.
ReplyDeleteBoocat, you are right. My daughter, who lives in Jefferson Parish, adjacent to NO, doesn't like to drive there.
Thanks be to God that it did not turn out worse.
Back from the ER, and it's whiplash. Ouch--but knowing to expect a 2 1/2 month recovery at least puts an end to it.
ReplyDelete(The free clinic doc said I'd need X-rays, which the clinic couldn't do.)
My neck only feels stiff; all the pain's in my scapula. The doctor's explanation was helpful--but I really could have done without him showing me his scar from neck surgery. (Which I do NOT need; they did a CT scan just to be sure.)
They gave me three prescriptions (Prednisone, Motrin, muscle relaxant), and a recommendation to get PT when I get back to CA.
Mimi--more details offline, later. If it helps GP, I'm not mad at him. Accidents happen to all kinds of people.
oh my gosh. glad to hear that everyone is all o.k.
ReplyDeletehow disturbing. keeping all three of you in my thoughts and prayers.
Oh dear- my prayers continue for you all- Grandmere, Grandpere, Kirstin and Grandmere's worried daughter!
ReplyDeleteKirstin, again, poor baby. I will continue to pray that your recovery will be speedy and not too painful. You did not need to see the doc's scar.
ReplyDeleteDennis, Fran, thanks for the prayers for all of us.
((((Mimi))))
ReplyDeleteMuch love. I saw your phone call--I'm too tired and loopy to talk tonight. (Good drugs, indeed). Tomorrow.
Kirstin, much love back. Call whenever you're not loopy. Sometimes loopy is good. Have a good night.
ReplyDeleteGood health to all and go out and get yourself a nice new car!
ReplyDeleteLindy
Prayers and good healing thoughts to all.
ReplyDeleteI'm late chiming in, but TBTG that it wasn't any worse.
ReplyDeleteKirstin, I hope you feel better soon. You can take 3-4 ibuprofen at a time, as long as you adjust the interval in between doses. (My doctor told me this, so it's info I trust---and I use it myself for knee pain.)
Mimi--love to you and GP. I can only imagine how bad he feels about this.
Kirstin--a couple of words from one who's been down that road--please take the pain meds with food, and a simple foam cervical collar can help recovery and make travel less painful.
ReplyDeleteHugs and prayers to all of you.
Coming in late to the discussion -- prayers for all. So sorry about the accident and the results. When I had whiplash, I used a neck collar but when I didn't feel like going out in public with it, I would take a big Guatemalan scarf and wrap it around my neck and it worked just as well. Good luck one and all.
ReplyDeleteThank you, all. Prayers and good wishes are greatly appreciated.
ReplyDeleteBeen down with the stomach flu and just saw this. Chiming in with my prayers as well, and hope the repurcussions on all sides -- health for Kirstin and insurance and otherwise for GM and GP -- are minimal.
ReplyDeleteSuzer, the insurance is a bit of a worry, since the companies have been known to cancel after one accident claim. The only other accident claim we have ever made is from years ago, when we were involved in a 17-car pile-up on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, when we didn't hit anyone, but were pushed from the rear into the vehicle in front of us.
ReplyDeleteHowever, my main concern is Kirstin, that she may have a speedy recovery.
