So-Called MadPriest Fan Club Party

From Dennis:

OK, here are the details for the proposed MadPriest fan club meeting for the northeast:

Monday October 22nd.

New York City, Chelsea, near General Theological Seminary (because Fr Jake is taking a Monday night class there and I would like to talk him into joining us) we meet for coffee at a place to be announced, go to evensong at General Theological (which starts at 5.30 so we would need to meet about 4 or 4.30), then go out for a drink or dinner and then whoever needs to go elsewhere (home, clubs, whatever!) can get there.

I know it is a work night BUT you are getting 5 weeks notice. What do you think?

I don't have Counterlight's email - can anyone forward it to him? It would be good to tell Clumber and Elizabeth Keaton and anyone else in the general area. If you have their emails or know of any other OCICBW... readers who need to see this please send it on to them.

You can contact Dennis through THIS LINK.

If MadPriest thinks this gathering will be ABOUT HIM, then he's delusional.

  1. Well, I am certainly a fan, but I will be flying home from a vsit out West and just can't make this one. Seems like all my favorite people will be there - except maybe MP. Y'all have a good time, ya hear!

  2. We'll miss you Sharecropper and raise a glass of Dennis' excellent wine choice to you.

Psst. I hear that Dennis is treating us all to the excellent wine. See what you're missing?

  3. I'm sorry you can't be there, Sharecropper. Another gathering, let's hope.

I actually finally booked last night, and only this morning realized what a chore it will be to get my work all done before I leave. But it's done. It will be a nice break for me.

The real dilemma for anyone staying the weekend before is what to see and do. I think Lincoln Center on Saturday alone has performances of Lucia, Carmen, and a concert pianist, not to mention theatre there and everywhere else in Midtown. And if all goes well, the weather could be gorgeous (October being the best time of year for Manhattan, as far as I know). Then where to go for church on Sunday? The places I know in Manhattan are St. Mary tbe Virgin, St. Thomas, and St. Bart's. I'm leaning toward St. Mary's because I've never been there during choir season. Other suggestions, anyone?

  4. Clumber sends his regrets as well, but will join you in spirit, I'm sure.

    sadly, woof...

  5. Klady, good suggestions. I have been to St. Bart's, and I'd like to try St. Mary's or St. Thomas. I'll be staying on 7th Ave. and 53rd St., which is walking distance from both.

I will be arriving on Saturday, and I have learned not to make definite plans for arrival days in the event of delayed flights.

Clumber, you old dog, sorry I won't get to shake your paw and give you a pat on the head.

  6. I sure wish I could be there, since GTS is my old stomping grounds but it's a bit far from Vermont, alas. You all can toast my father on his 83rd birthday that day.

For K Lady: In Greenwich Village, Saint Luke in the Fields, Hudson Street, is an Anglo-catholic parish with a fabulous choir and smoke at the late service (the one at which the choir sings).

  7. I'll call the restaurant and see if I can bring a really nice bottle of wine or two along.

  8. You know you'll never convince The Mad One that this isn't about him. He is going to have a swelled head for months (years even!)

  9. Caminante, sorry you can't be physically there, but all our e-friends will be with us virtually and in spirit.

Dennis, sounds good. If PJ comes up with some names of restaurants, please give them consideration. I feel a heavy responsibility. What of you use one of my suggestions, and it bombs?

Dan, that's "collateral damage", and we're really not responsible for that.

  10. Should some of us ladies (or laddies) be thinking about sharing expenses for a night or two and rooming together?

  11. Piskie, yes. You could link up here. I'm afraid that I am not up to sharing. I don't sleep well, and sharing a room with anyone except Grandpère is difficult for me. But feel free to use my blog to see if anyone else is interested.

  12. I know I am just barely on the periphery of this, but oh to meet you for even a moment, a prayerful moment would be a delight Grandmere.

If I am in NY maybe I can join you for evensong or whatever?

I do not want to foist myself upon you, but it would be so nice.

If not no worries, I couldn't resist.

BTW I "introduced" you to my pastor this morning. He was quite intrigued with your blog!!

  13. Fran, by all means join us. Don't forget. We are inclusive. I will let you know the details of the Monday meeting on Oct. 22, and if you can make it, please come.

  14. Grandmère, I would die to be there, but alas. . .If it is not too late to book a room, for those who need a good, reasonably priced place to stay, try the Community of the Holy Spirit, St. Hilda's House. It is on the upper West Side, 113th St, right off Broadway, across the street from the Columbia School of Social Work. It is way uptown, but it sits right on top of the subway, and it is easy to tube into anywhere you want to be. It is the only way I can afford to spend the night in NYC. The sisters are wonderful and you get to start the day with Morning Prayer and the Eucharist Service. What could be better than that?

  15. Boocat, excellent information. Dennis is setting up a trip blog to gather all information together for those of us who will be there for any part of it. Isn't he a dear? I'll let you know once it's done. I wish you could be with us.

  16. I'll be there, Mimi.

If you come by way of Newark Airport, I will be happy to come fetch you - a mere 18 minutes from the rectory.

I am happy to give you the Guest Room all to yourself in the rectory, if that will make your life any easier - or leave more money in your purse for some good bourbon (I'll order us a bottle of Booker's for the table).

Woo hoo! This is very exciting.

We'll have to make an effigy of The Mad One and sit him next to us in the bar.

He'll just have to get over his fear of flying (someone promise to send him Erica Jong's book by the same name if he flys into NYC).

  17. I already told Dennis I'll definitely be there -- I'm pretty sure Liz will want to join us too. I'm really looking forward to it.

  18. Elizabeth, you are a dear for offering me a place. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'd love to take you up on your offer another time.

I have other plans besides worshiping MadPriest's effigy during my few days in New York. A commute from New Jersey would make getting to them difficult. I am delighted that I will get to meet you.

I can't wait to meet all you crazy people. Like attracts like.

Yay! Allen and Liz, too. It's getting more exciting every minute.

  19. I sure wish I could come but I don't think it's quite in my sphere at least right now. I have wanted to go to New York for awhile...but this might be too early. sure sounds fun!

  20. Thank you- lets see what happens! I am delighted and hope that day finds me in NYC and not Albany.
