The Cost Of War

The Huffington Post provides a slideshow of pictures of Bush's visit to the wounded at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. A word of caution: the pictures are hard to look at. Thanks to Roger for the link.

Rmj at Adventus links to an essay by Christopher Dickey, in which Dickey says this:

What I wonder is whether in the real-world crisis of Iraq there is enough sanity and bravery in Washington to deliver us from the evil that's been created in Iraq.

I doubt it. God help us.

  2. Among the Democratic candidates, the only one who has been brave enough and sane enough is Dennis Kucinich, and look where he is in the polls. Chris Dodd has come aboard with the right position on the war rather late in the game.

The rest of them quibble and waffle about getting us out - one reason I cannot be enthusiastic about any of them. Don't misunderstand. I will vote for whoever is the Democratic nominee over a Republican, but not without disappointment.

  3. I don't even know what to say. May God be with those men whose lives have been irrevocably changed, with those who help them to heal, with their families (I saw at least one wedding band on a man's hand) and friends. And, as judgemental as it sounds, may Dubya someday doubt why he engaged these people in a futile war.

  4. Caminante, I'm left without words, too. We keep count of the dead, but not much notice is given to the more than 28,000 wounded, many of them with grievous wounds. And then, there are the walking wounded in mind and spirit, many of whom will end up homeless, because they can't function normally and don't get the help they need from their government who sent them to war.

  5. As Jeremiah said: "Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!"

  6. One of my fellow authors put up a blog post about the cost of war. It fits nicely with some of the points that you have made here, so, I thought I'd direct you to it... at EverydayCitizen.com .... she calls the post:
Economists Explain: Bush Destroyed Our American Dream and it's at this address:
