$6229.51

Above is the amount which has been collected for the Anglican Church of Christ the King, located in the City of God, one of the poorest and most violent slums in Rio de Janiero. Our virtual friend Luiz Coelho, a candidate for the Anglican priesthood, worked for nearly a year with the children of the City of God.

From Fr. Eduardo Costa:

These are some of our City of God children singing at Most Holy Trinity (which is the other parish I serve). We had a joint Christmas celebration. Please note that the song they sang is already part of the donation that some of you sent to us. With the first offerings, we bought several songbooks and mass settings for children.

The video of the children singing is here.

Please consider making a donation to this excellent cause. The appeal will continue until January 6, 2008. A PayPal button is at the same site, or if you prefer to make a donation by check, mailing addresses are below:

In the U.K. cheques (made payable to "St. Francis Church") should be sent to:

CITY OF GOD APPEAL,
St. Francis House
18 Cotswold Gardens

  2. A Blessed and Happy Christmas to you, Bosco. Did you see my earlier Boxing Day greeting to members of the Commonwealth?

The prayer from St. Ephrem is lovely. I'm going to poke around on your blog further. I added you to my blog friends list, so I can find you easier.

I have heard many good words about the New Zealand Prayer Book, so I'm thinking of purchasing a copy. What do you think? I think I know what you think.

  3. Thanks for your link.
I have linked back to you at

and because of the alphabet it holds clear pride of place!

If you buy a NZ Prayer Book I suggest if possible you get it from the Genesis publishers - there are several editions, and that is the best quality. If not possible well just buy one anyway.

We are quite a small church, and so quite adventurous - so you will find plenty there to nourish. And also some eccentricities to occasionally frustrate :-)

My website started as a help to using that prayer book, but has grown to international and ecumenical resourcing also.

    Happy reading.
I'm delighted we are linked in this way.

  4. Bosco, I see that you have a sense of humor. Thanks be to God. I'm still laughing at your Last Supper miracle picture. I took note that you have RULES. If I use your material, I will do my best to follow the RULES. Correct me if I err.

I read several of the prayers from the prayer book, and I love them. They are beautifully written. I'll try to find a Genesis copy.

I'm happy we found each other, too.

  5. The RULES are more rules than RULES :-)
I found some (including significant) have in the past taken my material and then claimed they were the source - and so I was in danger of breach of THEIR copyright!
Also others have taken my material, changed it in a way that's nothing like what I suggest, and then I have people making claims about me and my approach that's unhelpful. Hope that makes sense.
As the material is now spreading widely because of the internet this is the advice I've had.
I'm pleased you found the humour page. Where would we be without a sense of humour ;-)

    Blessings

    Bosco

  6. Bosco, I understand perfectly. I don't think that I write anything that anyone else would want to claim as their own - much less claim copyright! I guess I should have included a winking smiley emoticon.

If you look at my right sidebar, you will see my note on irony. Perhaps, I use irony to a fault. It helps me keep a weak hold on sanity.

Once bitten, twice shy. Imagine! Your own words violating another's copyright! There are folks out there who are NOT NICE. So far, I've been fortunate. My worst attack has been invasion into my comments by sellers of Viagra and Cialis. Now that I've said the names, I hope that won't bring them back.
