Faith is now quite uncertain. I'm no longer acting-as-if.

Elvis In Advent - For The Sad And Lonely
Especially dedicated to the many depressed Englishmen of my virtual acquaintance, but for anyone who feels sad or lonely during the season. I know that you are not few in number. In all seriousness, you have my sympathy.
Thank you for that. I love Elvis now even though I was not that big a fan as I was growing up. I remember one of the girls in my graduating high school class (1959) ran away to go to Graceland while she was in High School. I thought she was crazy.
But when I went to New Orleans I drove through Memphis and toured Graceland and I am a big fan. I guess that with age comes wisdom. Right?
Jay, I was not particularly a fan when I was young, but I am now, at least of his music before he messed himself up. But I always liked this song, even back then.
He has also grown on me with age. I really did not get into popular music until the arrival of the Beatles when I went overboard. Now I have a huge Elvis photo in my bedroom. To think, I am younger than he would be, perhaps better not to think :-)
That's funny what you say Renz, about his diction... He was Sun records answer for all the Black singers. He covered many of the songs that would not get played on 'white' stations. And he did sing that way on his own...He was born in Mississippi and raised around Memphis, and believe me, they do sing that way. I fail to hear Chreesmas...;-)
I don't think it was a diction coach either. I think it was Elvis. He loved and listened often to the black music of the time and was greatly influenced by it.
Oooh, the Graceland pop-up! (That's irony) You don't think his diction was just Elvis being Elvis?

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I'm not really responding to this post - it would be an admission of guilt.
ReplyDelete:)
Second, I wasn't a fan. He embarrassed me; I just didn't know why at the time.
:P
...because, at this point in his career, he was a real "looker", wasn't he? I mean, that would warm anyone up on a dark winter night, I'm sure.
(teengirlgiggle)
Oh man...I love that.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Renz, you're the expert here. I'll take your word for it.
ReplyDeleteScott, hmmm. OK, you're not responding to this post. Who knows better than you?
Bubs, you're quite welcome.
We'll be having a Blue Christmas service the Sunday evening before Christmas. I haven't quite figured out what we're doing yet, but . . .

ReplyDeleteThank you. I felt that was just for me!
ReplyDeleteMalcolm, I think that's a lovely idea.
ReplyDeleteBrian, it's an odd thing that we come to Elvis later in life. He would be a few months younger than I. We were true contemporaries.
DP, it is just for you, mon cher.
