Prayer:
O God, the Maker and Redeemer of all believers: Grant to the faithful departed the unsearchable benefits of the passion of your Son; that on the day of his appearing they may be manifested as your children; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and ever. Amen
We remembered the departed at our All Saints Day service yesterday, since we did not plan a separate service for All Souls Day.
We had a service at Grace Episcopal today, but I missed it since I had soccer games, and relatives visiting.
ReplyDeleteThis is usually the service I really try to make every year to honor those who have left us.
The picture above of our church cemetery is old. Since it was taken, we've received several grants to repair the old tombs and remove the plants growing in the stones and bricks. It looks much better now.
ReplyDeleteThe cemetery predates the church building, which was completed in 1844, and we're not sure of the date of the first burials there. It was originally the burial grounds of a plantation.
We had an All Souls' RHE last night -- I think a first here but four people joined me to give thanks for our saints... and someone has added some photos to our ofrenda in the chapel for which I am pleased.
ReplyDeleteIf we'd had a service in my church, the numbers would have been small. I suppose that's why the All Souls Day service does not happen.
