WE'RE HOME!

Home is good. I can read on paper and the computer without glasses pretty well, and I have distance vision of 20/30 the day after surgery. I'd say that's great, wouldn't you? I have no pain, just a little feeling of irritation. THANKS BE TO GOD, TO THE SURGEON, AND TO YOU MY FRIENDS. I'll be forever grateful. I love you all.

Today was a day to remember for me, because instead of being late for my appointment this morning, I was a whole hour early. Grandpère and I slept in my grandson's bedroom, and he had not turned his clock back. The doctor saw me early, and we were able to head home afterward.

  1. Hooray!

By the time this is over, you'll be able to see better than I can.

  3. Home is good. Keen vision is always good. Though you certainly seemed to have seen through b.s. pretty well even before the surgery.
    Prayers for your continued healing.

  9. Great stuff. Glad the doctors were up to the job! Many years ago a friend went to have a small cyst removed from her lower eyelid. Lying there looking at the scalpel moving towards her eye was quite un-nerving, especially as it was shaking about a bit. Her confidence wasn't improved when the doctor said, "Don't worry, it'll steady itself when it gets there!" All did go well however, just like yours.

  10. I'm quite sure that the prayers kept me from freaking out altogether when the surgery on my eye began. I confessed to Doxy in an email, so I may as well confess to all of you what a sissy I am. First, I am somewhat phobic about operating rooms and intrusions into my body with needles and scalpels. Then when the surgeon came at me under the bright lights and began probing into my eye, I thought I might lose it and freak out altogether, but I managed to hang on by my fingernails and get through the procedure.

I'm not looking forward to going through that again, but now that I've done it once, I know that I can get through the procedure again.

  11. Mimi--next time, tell them you need more drugs!

  12. Amen! And no surgery is ever minor (particularly if it's happening to you)!

  13. I wonder if there's a reason why they want you awake during the surgery. Also, I wanted to be up and out of there as soon as possible.

  14. Awake perhaps, but there are some pretty good tranquillizers out there.

  15. I don't mean to imply that I was not sedated, because I was, and I dozed off while I was waiting for my turn, but once the doctor began to operate, I was alert and awake. I would need an I-don't-give-a-shit-about-anything type tranquilizer.

  16. You should tell him next time you need more before he starts. I'm sure he will make sure you get more!

  17. The surgery goes better if you are awake (my husband used to do these) but there are drugs that will help and also those that make you forget the experience.

  18. See miracles do occur, Grandmere was an hour early :-)

  19. I'm glad everything went to great...the surgery & the timing :>)

One thing you forgot to mention: the weather! How much rain did you get from the storm AND who drove home?

  20. I'll mention my near freak-out next time, and perhaps a sedative with an anti-anxiety effect could be used.

Brian, yes! I've scored points that should cover me for a good many future late arrivals.

Doug, the weather was no problem. We had only a little wind and a bit of rain, but nothing to cause us concern.

Glad you are home and well, Mimi. And, YES to legal drugs.

  23. Thanks again, my friends. My eyesight is better today than yesterday. I have no pain today, not even a feeling of irritation, just a little as if I have something in my eye - which I do - a new lens!

  24. Deo gratias!

I'm so glad the surgery was a success, Mimi. You were in my prayers - still are.

  26. I suspect you'll find the 2nd one much less stressful, Mimi. Odd, but I can remember by blood pressure reading when I arrived for my 2nd one. It was 120/80. Not much of a stress reaction.

And soon you'll be able to have the eyeglass restriction removed from you driver's license.

Glad to hear it is doing so well.

  27. Mike, at one point, my blood pressure was 170/95. Not that I was nervous or anything.

We'll see about the glasses. I had my left eye corrected for near vision, so my distance vision may not be perfect. One option is to have one eye corrected for near vision and the other for distance. I decided not to go with the fancy lenses, because some folks see faint concentric circles with them, plus they would have cost $5000.
