Whiteycat, Diana and I send love to you and The Cats. Of course, I'm fibbing about Diana sending love to The Cats, because she has not reformed. She would, if she could.
hiya Grandmere Mimi, I got back from Germany a couple of hours ago. I couldn't post there - I took my mini-laptop, but no internet connection was available, alas, so I could look at Wounded Bird on my mobile phone, but not post.
Germany is a fabulous place and we spent rather a lot of time in little cafes and the Cologne Museum of Chocolate eating sacher torte -type cakes and drinking coffee. We also went to Cologne opera last night to see Kiri de Kanawa, aka Kiri de Canopener, play the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier (she is retiring soon). It was fabulous and utterly beautiful. It's such a lovely opera.
We also went to Cologne Cathedral this morning for Easter Sunday. It was rather cold in the cathedral but I really enjoyed it and went forward for the Eucharist even though as an Anglican I wasn't technically meant to (but I personally don't think God minds). There was some Cardinal there who gave "a sermon in German" - I couldn't understand a word but our German friend, who was there, said he thought it a little dull. But who cares, the music was lovely and I loved the service generally.
Cologne is the main seat of German Catholicism though and the thought of the child abuse scandals did hang in my mind while the service was going on.
Cathy, I've never been to Germany. I've heard Der Rosenkavalier several times but never with Kiri Te Kanawa.
The Eucharist is Our Lord's body and blood, and no human has the right to withhold communion. When I attend the RCC for children's masses with my grandchildren, I always go forward for communion.
hi Mimi, those are my thoughts on the Eucharist too. I know the RCC thinks no non-Cstholic should partake tho.
I really didn't mean to rave on about my trip at length but haven't had the chance to tell anyone else about it yet, still haven't come down off the high.
I forgot to say, I loved your Easter posts from Thursday onwards. They made me feel I was participating in Easter in a way I otherwise would not have felt. So thank you.
And I'd love to write something a bit better and longer about my trip, my brain just isn't very organised at the best of times tho, and it would take me a couple of days to collect it.
I wish you would make the journey here again!! I'm really hoping and praying MP gets a gig in Scotland to give you all on that side of the Atlantic an excuse to visit.
Is that a portrait of our friend Lapin? (That is one fey bunny rabbit.)
ReplyDeleteLapin revealed!
ReplyDeleteIt is such fun being naughty with you, Grandmère.
ReplyDeleteHave a very blessed Easter.
Paul, we're sooo bad for each other, forever egging (excuse the pun) each other on to naughtiness.
ReplyDeleteA Happy and Blessed Easter to you, Mimi. The Cats and I send our love to you.

ReplyDeleteThe best things in life are still sweet and gooey
ReplyDeleteHow true this is.
Cathy, are you still in Germany?
ReplyDeleteThe more I look at Fey Bunny, the more I like his de trop panache.

sorry, rather a long post - didn't mean to start raving on about my trip.
ReplyDeleteI missed reading Wounded Bird and OCICIBW and the other blogs properly. It ain't the same on one's phone.

Rave on, Cathy. In fact, if you'd like to say more about your trip, send me what you write, and I'll post it as guest blogging at WB.
ReplyDeleteMimi, that is very generous.
ReplyDeleteWhen are you next coming to Europe, anyway? ...
Cathy, of course, you get paid for your writing, so why should I expect to write for free?
ReplyDeleteI have no plans at the moment to cross the Atlantic or travel anywhere.
hey Mimi, no I don't get paid necessarily!!!

ReplyDeleteoh dear, I've totally misconstrued your last comment I think Mimi, so have just posted gibberish for my last two posts.
ReplyDeleteSorry about that.
In fact my last post was so off-topic I'm going to delete it.
Cathy, you didn't need to delete.
