"THE SOLUTION TO GAY MARRIAGE"

Chrislove at Daily Kos:

Larry is an ardent NOM [National Organization for Marriage] supporter and a believer in “traditional” marriage. And he apparently represents Cross Bearer Ministry in Indianapolis.

This is how Larry feels about gay people:

As my correspondent who sent the picture in an email attachment said in the subject line, "Bit of nastiness to kick-start the morning." I couldn't agree more. At the above link to Kos, you can see Larry in full glory in a video interview.

As Chris says, Larry admits that he "has experienced his share of homosexual feelings...but he apparently had the willpower to resist...."

Ah, yes.

  1. See it from the bright side! He didn't say it would have been a sing to marriy a black woman, which was still illegal in a certain number of States when your President was born...

At least that had filtered trough ;=)

  2. It was illegal under SC's state constitution until 1998, Göran, tho' this state of affairs was trumped by the Supreme Court's 1967 Loving v. Virginia ruling.

  3. Isn't that always the way. They are more afraid of what is within themselves than anything else. I do wish they would seek help to fight what they perceive as their own personal demons and leave everyone else to live in peace.

  4. The truly sad thing is that Larry is a gay person who has been frightened and brainwashed into believing this. I was at the rally in Indianapolis, and listened to NOM speakers one moment talking about how the 40 people who had come out to support them were supported by the majority of Americans, and the next moment telling them they were an endangered minority whose 1st amendment rights were being infringed by those of us who came out to peacefully disagree with their message. They want to use people like Larry, hoping that, with his name and address out there, he will be harassed by those who support equality so that they can use that as evidence of the infringement of their rights and the reason to allow them to collect anonymous donations and petition "signatures."

  5. It sickens me that we're back to depictions of nooses again. The image is loaded with such horrible implications of death threats, hatred, and hostility, that it's truly astonishing to me that anyone would use the image today. Of course, we know that death threats sometimes don't stop at threats, but become reality, with real people dead.

They are more afraid of what is within themselves than anything else.

BooCat, exactly. It's so sad to see a such a demonstration of self-hatred in plain view.

Paulas, I have the sense, too, that Larry is a dupe and is being used by NOM for its own purposes. I don't know that it's a wise choice.

  6. I have argued elsewhere that NOM wants to lose at this level. Maggie gallagher and Brian Brown are making a fortune out of this gig. If they are the "victim", the money comes rolling in. And they can be pretty confident of winning at SCOTUS, the most conservative court in decades.

    Victimhood is lucrative.

I just hope Hatefilled Larry is ignored by Our Side--tensions are so very high.

  7. IT, you may have a point, but are we to ignore this sort of thing? Would it have been better for me not to have posted on Larry's sign?

  8. No, Mimi, it wouldn't have been better to ignore it, because the hate of people like Larry needs to be exposed. It's there, it's real, and it's dangerous. That is what NOM supporters are thinking. That kind of thing needs to be exposed.

You'll find that Susan Russell and I and others also posted it last week.

  9. Don't you have incitement to hate crime legislation?

  10. We have extremely broad free speech protections. Larry is entitled to his viewpoint and he is entitled to state it And we need to shine bright light upon it.

  11. IT, whew! I don't think we should let this sort of thing pass.

DP, I see that IT answered your question.

  12. The nooses are what struck me, Mimi. It's very KKK, was my immediate thought.

  13. A terrible sight. A reminder of vicious vigilante "justice" in the South.

  14. This is why I don't believe much in the future of the human race.

I won't say we had a good run, but we had a run.

  15. Yes, the nooses are sickening and a blatant illustration of the hate that fuels the so-called "love the sinner, hate the sin" group. But that sign, and the man who screamed in my face were not what triggered the shakes in me, calling up old trauma. That sort of thing is pretty easy to stand up to -- it's so clearly hate, and it calls up a strong response. What called up the shakes in me, calling up old trauma, was the man who came up and sweetly told me that he loved me, and God loved me, and because they loved me so much, they wanted me to "turn my life around" and "choose life." That is the insidious message that does so much damage, the deadly sop that parents are encouraged to offer their own children. How many kids have prayed night after night to wake up heterosexual, only to wake up again and again feeling utterly alone and sick of living. How many kids have to die in the name of "agreeing to disagree" about that?

  16. Mark luv, we carry on, even if we're going to hell in a handbasket. ;-)

Paulas, you're right. It's the sugar-coated "concern" expressed by seemingly nice people that is soul-destroying.

  17. This website and project was started by a friend of ours at the local university. This is what a noose represents http://www.maryturner.org/

    We need to remember.

  18. This same sort of sentiment is being directed at the President (again), by a parish of your "former denomination", Mimi.

    See the story here.

It's getting scarier and scarier out there...

  19. Two Auntees, what a abominable story. Sadly, there are many such stories just as horrifying. We must not forget the ugly significance of depicting a noose.

JCF, at a church fair! I don't know why I'm still surprised by this sort of thing, but I am.
