My theory is they gave Ben Bernanke that job because it's just such a great name, Ben Bernanke. You'd have to do something like run the Federal Reserve Bank with a name like that. Plus the beard, which is rather good, as they pointed out in the video.
Our bankers in the UK are all called names like Sir Win Bischoff (Win being short for Winifred. Or Winfried, to be fair. Which is a good name too, just not as dynamic-sounding as Ben Bernanke).

Cathy, it was the name, then, that got the Ben Bernanke appointed. That's as good an explanation as I've heard.
