Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori’s statement:
At this morning’s Eucharist at the Primates Meeting, I offered prayers for the repose of the soul of David Kato. His murder deprives his people of a significant and effective voice, and we pray that the world may learn from his gentle and quiet witness, and begin to receive a heart of flesh in place of a heart of stone. May he rest in peace, and may his work continue to bring justice and dignity for all God’s children.
H/T to Andrew Gerns at The Lead.
Your Katharine is a blessing indeed!
ReplyDeleteGöran, our Katharine is indeed a blessing.
ReplyDeleteOur Katharine is a little late too, but she has the excuse that she has to clear any statement on behalf of the Episcopal Church with the Standing Committee, or whatever it's called. She's not an archbishop.
ReplyDeleteA fine statement worthy of a good Christian bishop.
Maybe a little late, but perhaps only limited communication with the outside world is allowed at the Primates Meeting.
ReplyDeleteWould our Kate really have to clear a statement such as this with the Standing Committee?
Well, ++Katharine hasn't just invited Uganda's Anglican Anti-Gay Violence-Enabler to a shindig she's currently hosting, either.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a lovely statement.
Beyond that, I think TEC as a whole (via the Exec Council) has to act.
I think we (TEC) should send some kind of human rights monitors, to witness (yes, martyr) w/ LGBT Ugandans. [I guess this is where I (needs be) volunteer! (Need to get passport. Would also require provisioning for such a mission.)]
JCF, our Kate is far from perfect, but she is the woman for the times.
ReplyDeleteAnd you offer your services, obtain a passport, gather provisions, and you're off! Yay JCF!
