The cover makes me laugh each time I look at it. All I can think is that a good many illustrators of the period must have been gay - except for Norman Rockwell, of course.
I think the guys like each other. Look at how their eyes are locked together. It's a real stretch for me to think that the cover is anything but an inside joke by a gay illustrator.
