MILITARY MASCULINITY

May, 1945. The titles of the stories are intriguing.

Don't blame me. Blame Lapin.

  1. May '45, Mimi. When the US Military was really feeling its oats.

  2. The cover makes me laugh each time I look at it. All I can think is that a good many illustrators of the period must have been gay - except for Norman Rockwell, of course.

  3. Even "Melvyn L. Heimer" sounds like code language.

    Go, Paul, go!

I think the guys like each other. Look at how their eyes are locked together. It's a real stretch for me to think that the cover is anything but an inside joke by a gay illustrator.

  14. Just looking for this link for you when my power went out, Mark. The May '45 issue was a flash in the pan, it seems.

  15. Yes, Lapin, none of the other covers stand out.

  17. When you're fighting a war, and you need every able body, you don't ask, and it doesn't matter. We've become more bigoted over time.
