And now, in real life, it's Newt pulling ahead. Ah, but Newt has a history, too. I remember the story of Newt going to visit his wife in the hospital when she was recovering from surgery for cancer and asking her for a divorce. Sweet.
I would agree about Newt but have left-leaning Americans perhaps suggested before that certain Republican candidates are simply too ridiculous to be voted into office, only to be proved wrong? ...
I counted out Rick Perry, Herman Cain, and Michele Bachmann pretty quickly. Why I can't think, because Sarah Palin was counted in as a VP candidate. And there was George Bush....
Newt is smart, but he is a liar, nearly to the point of pathology, and he would likely trip himself up with his lying. I probably shouldn't count any of them out, because I still can't believe we elected Bush twice, well once. The Supremes elected him once. What do I know?
Yes, also politicians do seem to lean towards the "telling porkies" end of the spectrum as a breed, and it doesn't always seem to hamper their efforts to get elected. Still, that doesn't mean Gingrich won't fatally trip himself up. Lord knows, I hope he does.
There was an article in the FT today saying Obama will have to climb a mountain to get himself re-elected and yet by the same token US voters don't want the Republicans either. I suspect you are fast approaching the same result we got in the last UK election where voters in effect said "go away the whole bally lot of you, a plague on both your houses". But how that might pan out in terms of practical results in the US, I don't know.
Obama has a tough fight ahead of him. By default, Romney may end up as the candidate, but the Republican electorate is not in love with him, and a good many may not bother to vote. That's one way Obama might win.
Yes, this is really telling it like it is!! I love him. . . Borowitz, not the deer.
ReplyDeleteBorowitz is wonderfully funny, plus I like the deer better than any of the previous Republican frontrunners.
ReplyDeleteThe current frontrunner is Newt Gingrich, I fear (or so I read this afternoon). :( DISLIKE
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% with you, Mimi.

ReplyDeleteHeh-heh.
ReplyDeleteCathy, fear not: Newt's shelf-life is due to expire any moment now (the STENCH has already started!)
I just don't think there's any doubt 2012 will be Obama vs Mittens...
Newt's shelf-life is due to expire any moment now....
ReplyDeleteBy Jove, I think you've got it!
If this deer is the Republican frontrunner we can be assured that the campaign will have the backing of plenty of "doe."
ReplyDeleteYes, I've left the stage!
Two in a row! Tobias left a pun on another thread. I hate to be stern with y'all, but....
ReplyDeleteThe deer is very pretty, I must say.
