HOW MANY OF YOU USE MY BLOGROLL?

How many of you would be upset if I removed the entire list? The blogroll is so long as to be nearly useless, and I don't keep up to see who is still blogging. I'd save the list in the event that some time in the future (I won't say when!) I add an active blogroll which showed updates.

UPDATE: The blogroll is gone. If there is great demand to have it back, I'll return it to its place.

Thanks to all of you who responded.

  1. What a great idea, Mimi. I think I'm the only one who uses it. It's how I come over here.

  2. Elizabeth, would you still visit if I deleted the list? That's important to me. ;-)

  3. I usually use the blogroll at Preludium, and have those others on your list in my bookmarks. I wouldn't miss the blogroll at Grandmere myself if you deleted. Others might feel different.

  4. I use yours (to remember) and mine because it´s ever flowing and almost like a ticker-tape of things I find interesting (yes, the active update one is really nice)...I notice I get many referals from Preludium and our friends in England...female and male. Also, the Jake´s Place blog, although not very active, does have good referals that come to me. It´s hard to gauge how active the blog rolls are except I see mine have lots of outclicks.

  5. Do it Mimi --and then you'll find out who misses it!

  6. Nurse Philosopher, thank you for weighing in. Preludium's type of blogroll is what I have in mind whenever I get around to adding the function. I added your blog to my list, so you will be included.

Len, mine is way down low on my blog page and makes for a lot of blank space on the page pages, which is one reason I thought of removing the list.

A good many folks come to my blog through other blogs with Mark Harris' type of blogroll.

Margaret, you're right. I could save the list and take it down and see what happens. I see you still have yours. :-)

  7. I get all the posts collected in Google Reader and can link back to the corresponding blog from there. On rare occasions I have used MP's blog roll to get to you and Elizabeth's blog quickly, and I have found a couple of other blogs to follow from there, but not so from your blog.

  8. Renz, I use Google Reader, too, so I seldom use my blogroll.

  9. I use the one on my blog. It is similar to Mark's but shorter.

  10. Could you put it on the left side? There appears to be a lot of white space to the left of your entries, so maybe it could be there. Of course, I know nothing about this, I just comment.

I've made an rss feed of all y'all that I read and put you in a bookmark called blogs. It's real handy for me, except there's a couple of blogs that won't let me put them in that feed.

    That is all.

  11. Piskie, thanks.

susan s., there is a template that I follow, and I would not know how to put the list on the left. The main point is that I see the blogroll as fairly useless.

  12. I don't use it or others' blogrolls either. I use rss feed for those I like and they come into a special mailbox in my email -- only go to the blogs if I want to comment - otherwise read them in my mail.

  13. I think the blogroll will go. I'll save the list, and if there is a clamor to have it back, I'll oblige.

  14. The useful thing in having a couple of blogrolls out there is when for some mysterious reason Firefox or Safari decides to disappear all your bookmarks (this has happened twice to me), I can go to other people's blog rolls to rebuild my bookmarks which is much faster than working on a grab screen shot and having to type in everything. Also sometimes I find new blogs from other people's blogrolls. I don't do RSS because then I would feel inundated. If the blog friends were moved up perhaps it would be more useful. But I am not going to die if you remove it. Maybe it's the difference between my love of pawing through a card catalogue or reading the stacks, rather than looking for books on a computer. (When I did my doctorate, I had no choice but to go through the catalogue because the library had not gotten all its contents online.)

  15. Whoops! Caminante, the blogroll is gone. I saved the list in case I want to return it to its place.

I'm relieved to hear you won't die because of the removal. ;-)

  16. Late to the table - too late - but a sensible move.

  17. Caminante, it is possible to back up your bookmarks to a file. I did and when my laptop died I retrieved the backup file and hey presto I had my bookmarks back. Saves all the effort.

Mimi, I won't miss the blogroll at all.

  18. Cathy, I'm pleased you won't miss the blogroll. I still have blank space at the bottom because Blogger says if you have more than 10 posts to a page, the blog may take a while to load for slower internet servers.
