A guest conductor here in New York stopped in the middle of Mahler's 9th, in mid movement, when a ringtone went off in the middle of a packed Avery Fisher Hall. He did not resume the symphony until that man was found and removed from the hall.
The audience gave the conductor a standing ovation.
The musicians handle that sort of situation with as much grace as they can muster. I fully understand the conductor's response, and I thought the young man in the video handled the moment quite well.
