THREE CHEERS FOR JUSTICE JAMES C NELSON OF THE MONTANA SUPREME COURT!

"While, as a member of this Court, I am bound to follow Citizens United, I do not have to agree with the [U.S.] Supreme Court’s decision," wrote Justice James C. Nelson, in his dissent. "And, to be absolutely clear, I do not agree with it. For starters, the notion that corporations are disadvantaged in the political realm is unbelievable. Indeed, it has astounded most Americans. The truth is that corporations wield enormous power in Congress and in state legislatures. It is hard to tell where government ends and corporate America begins: the transition is seamless and overlapping."
The photo of me taken at Occupy New Orleans is a fright, and my enemies may well use it against me, but I sacrifice for the cause.

H/T to Charles Pierce at The Politics Blog at Esquire, who urges us to send flowers to the justice.

  2. susan s., my enemies lurk out there, and they're all out to get me any way they can, even with bad photos.

  3. What you need (that is if you need any defense at all) is a nasty Gay man to make those enemies into the cowards (that I bet they are already) and they will run for cover...promise! I´m available on short notice...you can send the details of who/what/where to my private email...always alert, often wishful of justice...I never close (I really ought have a cape or something to wear when I tell them ¨we ain´t gonna take it anymore¨)!

  4. Len, one of my trolls, whose comments I consistently deleted, then began to send me frequent and lengthy emails with graphic details on the evils and dangers of gay sex. Finally, I threatened to publish his email address and sic my fiendish friends (like you) on him, and he quit.

Thanks for your offer. I feel safer just knowing it's there.

As many of you know, my policy is to hold emails and email addresses in confidence, unless I have permission to publish, but I'd had enough.

  5. Oh, that sounds like the one MP had. He was always posting the 'evils' thing among other things.

  6. susan s., I believe it was the same troll. This happened a few years ago, and I'm not even sure I would have followed through, but the threat was enough.

  7. "Likes to send graphic sex emails to grandmothers": people and their kinks, Oy Vey! :-X

    I *love* the pic, Mimi.

  8. ...people and their kinks, Oy Vey!, indeed, JCF.

Thanks for your kind words about the picture. I'll try to internalize the sentiment.

  9. Mimi, the pic is so inoffensive that if I didn't know you better I'd think you were fishing... ;-) It's a lovely picture of a witness to all things good. Proud of you...

  11. Thanks, Tobias and Cathy. I do think the photo is dreadful, but, of course, that could mean that I believe myself to be better looking than I actually am. Still, I'd prefer to hang on to my illusions, but for the cause...

  12. First, you're a lovely lady, physically as well as spiritually - and one of my great regrets is I'll never be the gentle, hopeful, beautiful person you are.

Secondly, if I had the moral courage, I'd douse myself with kerosene, sit outside the capitol and set myself on fire. I just see no end to the misery of this country without some dramatic act, and I can't see the bloodshed of revolution as good for my soul - which is selfish, but I got too many black marks already! I already work for Dickensian Libertarian/Republican assholes with money where compassion ought to be, and I'm just that hopeless, depressed, and angry about how bad the fact that I'm one of the lucky ones in this "Great Country" of ours.

  13. Mark, what kind words. Thank you.

Don't even think about setting yourself on fire because of the Dickensian assholes. If our faith is about anything, it is about hope, no matter how bleak things appear.

  14. I . . . think I've lost my faith.

Or, more accurately, that God has lost His faith in us.

  15. I . . . think I've lost my faith.

Mark, I lost my faith once, but then I found it again. I pray you will know once again that God loves you and all of us, and cares about us.

Counterlight, my file is fat by now, as it goes back to letters to elected representatives about ending the Vietnam war.

  17. Lindy, thanks. I'm processing all the compliments in the hope of internalizing the sentiments expressed. And then, I shall be so proud that none of you will be able to stand me. ;-)

FWIW, I haven't submitted a caption to MP for this pic: I don't think the sign could be any better than it already is!

  19. Honestly, JCF, I didn't understand the point of MP's post.
