OFF TO MERRIE OLDE ENGLAND
In a little more than a week, I will head to Merrie Olde England for my final trip across the Atlantic. Traveling by plane has become so difficult and unpleasant, that I don't see myself making the attempt again. Even I think it's a bit crazy for me to attempt it now. Grandpère surely thinks so, and he will not travel with me. On this trip, I will be in the south of England, with Oxford as my outpost farthest to the north.
While I'm there, I will have access to the internet mostly on my friend's laptop. Email messages to and from my family will be my priority, so it's likely few posts will appear on Facebook or my blog.
I've just been summoned to jury duty on a date when I will be out of the country, so I must write to be excused, though I like to do my civic duty when called upon. The notice tells me that I may also be excused due to my great age, but I would not ask on that account.

Oh! How wonderful!!! God bless you, and travel well!
ReplyDeleteThanks, margaret.
DeleteSurely they are recognizing your ¨great age¨ as simply being GREAT! Not me, I traveled to Orlando because I couldn't get ¨excused¨ one more time (and my friend who always excused me via long distance at eh OC office retired)...so, there I went and waited and the very night before (after a certain hour I was to telephone in and see if my number was called for the next day trail) and presto-zappo, NO JURY DUTY (dare they try it again I will claim to have a great age too...when do we qualify for Greatness? ....regarding Inglaterra, have a fabulous time being a traveler amongst all those relatives of mine...surely they will be extra polite and hospitable because of your GREATNESS! We've altered them in advance. Enjoy, besos para todos!
ReplyDeleteLeonardo, I have been summoned several times, but the cases were always settled the night before, so I have never sat in a jury or even in the jury pool.
DeleteYes, yes. Simply GREAT, you and me. Nothing to do with age. ;-)
It won't be easy, but I'll try very hard to enjoy myself.
Bon Voyage, cher Mimi!
ReplyDeleteThank you, my friend.
DeleteLove to meet you if you're coming to Bath Mimi....
ReplyDeleteI have not yet reached a great age, but I have certainly started to find nine hours on a plane with cramped seating very trying. I like it when we're able to arrange to stay overnight with my friends in Maidenhead each way, as my Mum is another four hours by underground and train after Heathrow.
ReplyDeleteStill, I'm always glad to be there to see friends and family and enjoy England. Have a blessed time, Mimi, and travelling mercies to you.
Tim, I have friends in Newark with whom I will stay on the way home, but I could not find a flight out of Newark for my departure. Actually, the return trip seems more difficult as you end up with a day that lasts 28 or more hours. Thank goodness for kind friends in Newark.
DeleteI'm glad you and Marci enjoyed your trip, though it must have been bittersweet with the memorial services for your father and your uncle.
I pray that you have a joy filled trip! Keep safe and enjoy every minute.
ReplyDeletewhiteycat, thank you. Once I arrive in England I will enjoy myself.
DeleteWhat fun! I hope you have a safe and pleasant journey, and take pics to share with us when you return.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Russ. I will take pictures. The pleasant journeys will be after I get to England. The flight is something to endure until I reach England.
DeleteBuon viaggio, nonna cara! I look forward to photos and stories.
ReplyDeleteGrazie, caro Paolo. Pictures and stories will come.
