BROOKLYN FLEA MARKET

The flea market was attractive and well worth a visit and included food and drink booths for those who were hungry and thirsty. We walked from the subway station down Lafayette Ave, a pretty part of the borough with elegant old houses, which I'm sure cost the earth.

My granddaughter likes vintage clothing. She bought a dress at the market and souvenirs for her family and friends. The dress looked homemade, but very nicely done. If it was vintage, it was recent, because the style was of today. The photo shows Ashlynn trying to decide.

My daughter bought souvenirs, too, and one or two pieces of inexpensive jewelry for herself.

Since I no longer do souvenirs, I purchased only an inexpensive foldable sun hat to go with my collection of foldable sun hats, all of which I forget at home when I travel, thus leading me to buy yet another foldable sun hat.

My favorite item that I didn't buy was the pink elephant, a nostalgic reminder (for other people) of boozy wild and reckless nights.

OFF TO MERRIE OLDE ENGLAND

In a little more than a week, I will head to Merrie Olde England for my final trip across the Atlantic. Traveling by plane has become so difficult and unpleasant, that I don't see myself making the attempt again. Even I think it's a bit crazy for me to attempt it now. Grandpère surely thinks so, and he will not travel with me. On this trip, I will be in the south of England, with Oxford as my outpost farthest to the north.

While I'm there, I will have access to the internet mostly on my friend's laptop.   Email messages to and from my family will be my priority, so it's likely few posts will appear on Facebook or my blog.

I've just been summoned to jury duty on a date when I will be out of the country, so I must write to be excused, though I like to do my civic duty when called upon. The notice tells me that I may also be excused due to my great age, but I would not ask on that account.

NOTE TO SELF

Before buying clothing you think you will need for an upcoming trip, first look in your closet.

UPDATE ON LINDA

When Linda arrived at the airport in Atlanta, her friend, Gary, was there, but it took about an hour and a half for the two of them to get together because of a mix-up. Gary had arranged for a hotel room for Linda to rest while waiting for her flight to Johannesburg, but because of their delay in meeting up, there was no time to go to the hotel. As they were waiting to board the flight, a woman nearby must have sensed the situation, and she offered to switch seats with Linda and give her a seat in first class. The airline had already arranged for Linda to be in first class, but that the woman offered was lovely.

And that's as far as what we know takes us.

Other posts on Linda are here and here.
