TELL PRESIDENT OBAMA: DON'T BOMB SYRIA

The petition reads:
"President Obama:  With civilians being butchered and refugees suffering immensely, it is horrifying to watch the brutal civil war in Syria unfold. But U.S. military intervention is far more likely to make matters worse, not better. The U.S. should not bomb Syria. The best thing we can do is commit to holding war criminals accountable, expand humanitarian aid for refugees, and maintain constant diplomatic pressure for a negotiated end to the conflict."
Sign the petition here.

The administration sees the use of chemical weapons in Syria as a threat to our national security. Certainly, the Syrian people suffer, but I don't understand the threat to the United States. What good purpose would be served by sending missiles that inflict more suffering and death on people who are already suffering and dying?

Instead of sending in missiles that kill and cause more misery, why not spend the money to help refugees, over 1 million of whom are children, many alone without their parents? Help the Syrians who fled to Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt who are in desperate need. The last thing Syria needs is more violence.

ONE MORE TIME...

Must-have button for GC12
...an appeal for donations to help with expenses for lodgings for Malcolm French, Moderator, and Lionel Diemel, US Convener, of No Anglican Covenant Coalition, who attended General Convention 2012 of The Episcopal Church in Indianapolis.  Everyone who was present at the convention commended Malcolm and Lionel for their dedication and hard work.  They are short a few hundred dollars on their expenses for lodgings, and any amount you can give will help.  With a donation of $25.00, you are eligible to receive a button like the one pictured above.

IT'S NOT TOO LATE...

Must-have button for GC12
...to donate to help with expenses for lodgings for Malcolm French, Moderator, and Lionel Diemel, US Convener, of No Anglican Covenant Coalition as they attend General Convention 2012 (July 5–12) of The Episcopal Church in Indianapolis.  Agents Malcolm and Lionel will be hustling our Resolution D007 calling for rejection of the Anglican Covenant.

Lionel says:
For the first time, the No Anglican Covenant Coalition needs to solicit financial help in support of our efforts. To date, coalition members have run our operations on a shoestring, and some members have made significant personal sacrifices to enable us to oppose what we believe is a disastrous change in direction for the Anglican Communion.

Our presence at General Convention will be our most expensive undertaking so far, requiring funds for travel, lodging, meals, buttons, brochures, etc. We estimate that this project will cost more than $3,000 US. Your help is urgently needed. Please consider making a generous donation to this important effort.

PADRE MICKEY - A SAD END TO 12 YEARS OF MISSIONARY SERVICE

Please read Padre Mickey's A Big Honkin' Announcement post.
So, I guess I might as well finally give this news to all fifty-three of my Faithful Readers here at Padre Mickey's Dance Party, as I already announced it on Facebook and yesterday at Parroquia San Cristóbal: on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, I submitted my resignation as Rector of St. Christopher's Parish, effective December 18, 2011. I've been trying to find a position in the U.S.A. and have been unsuccessful, to say the least.
....

So, keep us in yer prayers and stuff. Personally, I find this a rather anti-climatic ending to twelve years of service as missionaries, but one never knows what God has in mind.
Padre Mickey's difficulty in finding a position in the church brings tears to my eyes. I simply can't believe that an Episcopal priest, who served sacrificially with his wife, the Lovely Mona, as missionaries in Panama for 12 years with low pay, is now having difficulty finding a job. They want to be in California, where both sets of aging parents live. Padre speaks Spanish and plays the electric bass, as you see him pictured above. Why wouldn't a number of parishes in California want to snap him up as their rector? I don't understand. Truly, I don't. I realize that not every parish considers playing the electric bass a priority, and Padre doesn't have a full head of hair, but still....

All joking aside, Padre and Mona will have no source of income once he is gone from St Christopher's in Panama, so if you'd like to help them, here's the contact information:

Please feel free to check St. Francis' web site, which includes an archive of our letters and pictures of our mission.
