Gov. Bobby Jindal Watch - Two

From the Baton Rouge Advocate:

Gov. Bobby Jindal faces state ethics charges for failing to timely disclose more than $100,000 in campaign aid he received from the state Republican Party.

The Louisiana Board of Ethics ordered a public hearing to explore charges that Jindal and his governor’s campaign committee violated the state’s Campaign Finance Disclosure Act.

Timmy Teepell, Jindal’s chief of staff, said Thursday night that Jindal would pay the fine.

Jindal failed to “accurately disclose in-kind contributions” from the state GOP, according to a Tuesday letter notifying Jindal of the reporting problem.

Well, that didn't take long. Our new governor ran on the promise of change, the promise of bringing ethics back to government in Louisiana. He'll have to start with himself, won't he?

Thanks to Oyster for the heads-up.

  1. Wow, is that a record? Barely sworn in and an investigation already?

I think we should simply appoint aninvestigator for every governor and the President whenever we elect a new one. That will save time and effort int he long run.

    /cynical mode off.

  2. He's a strange fella. When he was at Brown University, he participated in an exorcism and wrote about it in a conservative Roman Catholic publication. That's a story for another day.

  3. those politicians in Louisiana are fast. Illinois politicians take years to build up a graft organization and start getting to the dirty bucks. I am impressed at the speed of this young man.
Now if he is smart he will invest all of his dirty money in a call center in the Punjab. He will need a nice place to escape to when things get a little dicey.

  4. It's the same here. We've just had a resignation from the cabinet. A senior politician, Peter Hain, failed to disclose £110,000 donations for his failed deputy leadership bid.

    Plus ca change!

  5. Wow. If you get in ethics trouble in Louisiana, you really have screwed up.

    And already, this soon? Yeek.

  6. It's the hypocrisy! Well, it's the corruption, too, but he ran as Mr. Clean.

  7. DCap, welcome. I've seen you over at Fran's place. You're a nice-looking fella, you know.

This one took my breath away. It was the same as when I saw how quickly Halliburton got into Iraq to steal our tax money. It's not as though I was greatly surprised. It was the speed of it.

  8. As we say up north, "badda-bing, badda-boom!" (Or something like that.)

  9. With so much change in the world, it's good to know that Louisiana politicians can still be relied on.

  10. Lapin, yes. It's sort of comforting.

In the fuller account this morning, the GOP failed to report...; the Republican Party did not submit invoices...blah, blah, blah. Jindal will pay the fine.

    Whatever.

  11. P.S. With respect to Jindal and the GOP, I was going to add the old aphorism, "If you lie down with dogs...", but I thought better of that. I'd get massacred by my readers.

  12. There's a nice 17th c. couplet along these lines, Mimi:

    "Bad company is a disease,
Who lies with dogs shall rise with fleas."

  13. Thanks, Lapin. That's much better. Remember, I didn't say it; you did.

I misused the word "massacre" also, which refers to a mass killing. But the dog lovers among us may not have stopped with me. They may have gone on to a rampage with others getting hurt.
