TRAVEL BREAK

Tomorrow, I leave for my great adventure into the wilds of northwest Scotland. Please pray for safe travels for the mad three. For details of our trip, see my earlier post.

I will not have my computer with me, because I don't want to wrestle another item through security. Also, I want a break from blogging to return fresh and rejuvenated to pound the keys once again. You'll hear all about the trip and see pictures when I get home. Who knows? Even MadChauffeur may strike a pose. Before I leave, I will turn off the comments function.

UPDATE: Miss Cathy and Miss Mimi waved a tearful good-bye to MadChauffeur this morning. He left quite worried that Miss C and Miss M would not be capable of making their way on the rest of the journey without him, but they will be fine.

  6. Have a fabulous time and be sure to have a dram or two from time to time of some good single malt scotch.

  7. Thanks, everyone. The heat here is of the you-can-fry-an-egg-on-the-sidewalk variety, and it will be a great relief to flee away to cooler weather.

About the single malt, I will have a dram or two.

  8. Are you a pickpocket or (as well as!) a loose woman?

Bon Voyage Cher Mimi! [Kiss Cathy for me. ;-) Hug and/or slug MadPriest.]

SO envious about those "wee drams"!

  9. JCF, thank you.

Are you a pickpocket or (as well as!) a loose woman?

    'Fraid so, m'dear.

MadPriest? Is there something I don't know? In any case, IF I were to run into MadPriest, with only two choices, I'd have to choose the slug.

  12. Bon Voyage! I wish I could travel with you and carry the luggage, but not in that nasty Reker sort of way.

  13. Thank you all. I'll write when I can, m'dears.

KJ, you nice boy, you know I'd love to have you carry my luggage, but not in the nasty Reker sort of way.

  14. I'm sure KJ could give a dynamite special massage if he put his mind to it.

Anyway, since Mimi is a right proper Episcopalian and Southern lady, the correct category must be pickpocket.

Buon viaggio, cara Nonna. Have a fabulous time and be prepared to share stories when you return.

    No doubt!

Caro Paulo, the picture is one of my favorites, and I like very few pictures of myself.

Thank you for your good wishes.

  16. I have turned the "pickpockets & loose women" scan into a jigsaw puzzle. Those needing a "Mimi-fix" over the next couple of weeks may access it here.

  17. Amelia, we'll remember that you were there.

Lapin, the puzzle was a hoot. Thank you.

  18. Have fun though I gather it has been wet (my boss just got back from Scotland).

Also if you have a chance find out how many Scottish Episcopalians there are. The wikipedia article is having a dispute on that. :-)

  19. This sneaked past me in my own preparations. Have a wonderful time. I flew from NZ to Australia yesterday and fly onto Europe via Bangkok on August 19. When you return on August 26 I will hopefully be on the 2nd day of my cruise up the Norwegian coast.

  20. Have a great trip. I was good to talk to you the other day.

Lapin, the puzzle was fun. thanks!

  21. Erp, after looking at the several-day weather forecast, I doubt we'll be seeing much of the sun.

Brian enjoy your Norwegian coast cruise.

Dennis, thanks. Good to talk to you.

  24. "I had desired to visit the Hebrides, or Western Islands of Scotland, so long, that I scarcely remember how the wish was originally excited; and was in the Autumn of the year 1773 induced to undertake the journey, by finding in Mr. Boswell a companion, whose acuteness would help my inquiry, and whose gaiety of conversation and civility of manners are sufficient to counteract the inconveniences of travel, in countries less hospitable than we have passed.

"On the eighteenth of August we left Edinburgh, a city too well known to admit description, and directed our course northward, along the eastern coast of Scotland, accompanied the first day by another gentleman, who could stay with us only long enough to shew us how much we lost at separation.

"As we crossed the Frith of Forth, our curiosity was attracted by Inch Keith, a small island, which neither of my companions had ever visited, though, lying within their view, it had all their lives solicited their notice. Here, by climbing with some difficulty over shattered crags, we made the first experiment of unfrequented coasts. Inch Keith is nothing more than a rock covered with a thin layer of earth, not wholly bare of grass, and very fertile of thistles."

    We expect nothing less.....

  25. You're at DP's now, right? Have a good rest up and get on that plane! I miss you.

  26. Rick, thanks for the quote from Johnson. In several places we visited, we saw quotes from Johnson's journal and notations that "Boswell and Johnson were here!".

Susan, DP and I had a lovely day yesterday, and I had a yummy meal with him and his family last evening.

I miss all of you, too. I'll be back online probably sometime Friday, since I'm getting home late on Thursday.

Seeing our mutual friend rmj this week for the first time in person in over a decade. Embarrassing that I never met his beautiful daughter till she entered college!
