ISAAC NOW CATEGORY 1 HURRICANE

Isaac, who is no gentleman, is now a Category 1 hurricane, with winds predicted at 75 mph and rainfall over a long period as it comes near or passes over us.  What can I say?  I'm not looking forward to Isaac's arrival, but I've been through worse.  Four-letter words come to mind, but I won't inflict the words on my readers in my post, as mine is a family-oriented blog.

UPDATE:  Before dark, I took my dog, Diana, for a half mile walk, with the thought in mind that the weather will get worse later.  I usually walk her late, because she's an older dog and sometimes has problems with incontinence, and exercise is the best medicine.  A blustery wind blew, with occasional stronger gusts, along with short periods of relative calm.  I wore my plastic parka for protection against the light rain, because an umbrella would have been of no use.  So far, we still have electric power, but who knows for how long?

UPDATE 2: We're fine. The weather is still blustery and rainy. We have power at this time, but periodically it goes off. Internet service on my laptop is slow, very slow. No TV or internet for the desktop. Tom and I slept last night, so we don't know what the worst of the hurricane was like. No large limbs fell from our trees, just a lot of small limbs to be cleaned up.

Thanks for your prayers and concern.  We are very grateful.  Love.

  1. As Dr Hans Zarkoff says in the Flash Gordon movie .... "For God's sake, strap yourselves down!"

  2. I will never forget the time we went into the attic during a hurricane and saw the roof "breathe". We installed hurricane roof protection straps when we built the house, and the roof held, but the "breathing" was a scary sight. My present solution is not to go into the attic. Some things are better not seen.

  4. Fingers crossed, tho' looks like you'll mainly be OK. Blame the Republicans for holding their convention in Tampa and then praying it away from them.

    1. Lapin, I am now at the point that I blame the Republicans for everything bad that happens.

I watched a few minutes of the convention. What a bland, pasty, dull-looking crew.

    2. Talking of bland, have you seen any of the "Romney boys" interviews?

    3. No, I have not had the pleasure of seeing the Romney boys.

  5. Want to send special prayers for dear Diana, and her pack members (puddle wipers). Hope the ol' girl doesn't get too upset by the wind&rain...

    1. Thanks, JCF. Your prayers and concern are much appreciated. Diana is pretty deaf and has poor vision, so I don't believe she'll be much troubled by the storm.

  7. Bonnie, I agree. I like the map because it shows the place names.

  8. My initial reaction is 'holy crap!' Then I calm down, and say, 'Prayers ascending'! Both are meant sincerely!

    1. Thanks, Tim. Prayers and 'holy crap' are both appropriate. I don't know about Tom, but I'm going to bed, and I intend to sleep.

  9. Prayers, prayers, prayers and more prayers. I'd say "I'm praying up a storm" but that just doesn't seem right. Maybe, "I'm praying DOWN a storm." Anyway, prayers, dear Mimi.

    1. Thanks, Len. I'm going to bed. This will not be the first time I sleep through a hurricane. Why do they always seem to come at night? Perhaps it's for the best not to be able to see what's happening. The house is quite dark with the shutters closed, so we can't see much outside anyway except through the glass in the doors.

  12. Now that it is actually there, I hope you and Grandpere are safe and snug. Prayers ongoing. The morning news has so much water being dumped on you and all the people in the area., I would imagine that is a bigger threat than wind.

  16. Thanks all. We slept through the worst of the hurricane. See update to my post. Not everyone in Louisiana was as fortunate as we are. We're getting news mostly from the radio, since my internet service is so slow.
